Methamphetamine, or meth, is a powerful and highly addictive illegal stimulant. When ingested, meth produces a relatively short euphoric rush that also can include excessive energy, hyperactivity, poor judgment, restlessness, and even sometimes anxiety, tension, or paranoia. Because the high from meth lasts a relatively short time, those who use it often do so in a repetitive binging pattern that can quickly lead to a substance use disorder. Meth abuse has the potential to cause devastation across multiple arenas of a person’s life and can even be fatal if professional care from a meth addiction treatment center is not sought.

Thankfully, however, treatment options are available for those struggling with meth abuse. At Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, California, we understand how difficult it can be to overcome a meth use disorder, so we have designed specialized addiction rehabilitation programming to give you the best possible chance of stepping into a life free from the grip of meth.

How to Help a Loved One

Helping a loved one get treatment for meth addiction

Standing by a loved one who is struggling with meth abuse can be profoundly difficult and emotionally draining. You may feel discouraged and wonder if there is anything you can do to help. While it may feel as though you have run out of options, the following are some steps you can take to help your loved one:

  • Research options for care at meth abuse treatment centers. Look into various treatment centers and select a few that may be a good fit for your loved one. As you are searching, feel free to speak to treatment staff at each center and ask about their program and their treatment approach.
  • Learn about meth and meth use disorder. Doing so will not only help you recognize the symptoms of meth intoxication and meth overdose, but may also help you understand what your loved one is going through.
  • Have open and honest communication with your loved one. It may be especially difficult for you, but try your best to be patient and engage him or her in a nonjudgmental, open, and compassionate manner. Share your observations with your loved one, and also let him or her now what you found during your research into treatment centers and options for addiction rehab for meth.
  • If your loved one decides to enter treatment, do your best to help smooth the transition. Make yourself available to set up appointments with treatment center staff and offer to accompany your loved one to those appointments. While he or she is in treatment, maintain contact with him or her and reassure him or her frequently of your support.

Why Consider Treatment

Why consider treatment for meth addiction at Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, CA

If left untreated, meth abuse can destroy a person’s life. Constant use can cause poor performance at work, possibly leading to job loss, financial difficulties, and even homelessness. Meth use also can cause fractures in relationships and may lead to divorce, loss of child custody, and loss of one’s social network. Meth even damages a user’s own body, possibly leading to dental problems, organ damage, and long-term cognitive and emotional impairment; overdose is also a perpetual threat. Though the consequences of meth abuse can be severe and even fatal, and with the guidance of a professional meth addiction rehab program, one does not need to fall victim to this insidious substance because help is available for those who seek it.

Depending upon the unique needs of each person who chooses to heal with us, treatment and rehab at Sunrise Recovery Ranch may include the following elements:

Detoxification: If a client arrives at Sunrise Recovery Ranch with meth or other substances of abuse still in his or her system, we offer detoxification services that include around-the-clock nursing care and monitoring to make the detox experience as safe and comfortable as possible. Clients who partake in our detox services will be seen by a doctor within 24 to 48 hours of admittance.

Medication management: Medication management services at Sunrise Recovery Ranch are provided by our medical director and members of our nursing staff. Clients whose chemical dependency is accompanied by a co-occurring psychiatric disorder are required to attend weekly meetings with either our medical director or one of our physician’s assistants. Individuals who are not experiencing co-occurring disorders will have one meeting with our medical director or a physician’s assistant.

Individual therapy: Individual therapy is an essential component of treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch. Every person who heals with us has the opportunity to participate in at least two individual sessions each week. During these sessions, clients meet with their substance abuse counselor to discuss the progress they have made, process any successes or setbacks, and address any concerns that have arisen since their previous session. Coordinating closely with our certified addiction counselors, marriage and family therapist interns and trainees will also meet with each client on a weekly basis, with additional sessions available to be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Family therapy: If a client chooses to incorporate his or her family members into the treatment experience, marriage and family therapist interns or trainees are available to conduct family therapy sessions on a weekly basis. Depending upon the specific needs of the client and his or her family members, additional family sessions may be held via teleconference during the client’s individual therapy sessions.

Group therapy: Group therapy sessions provide valuable opportunities for clients to share their knowledge, learn from the experiences of others, and practice important skills under the guidance of a qualified professional such as a marriage and family therapist intern, marriage and family therapist trainee, chemical dependency counselor, or clinical technician. Several group sessions are held every day to address a variety of topics, including the following:

  • Defense mechanisms
  • How the disease has impacted clients and their families in a negative manner
  • Anger management
  • Relapse prevention
  • Spirituality
  • Nutrition and wellness

The day a client enters treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch, his or her case manager will begin working on a continuing care plan to ensure that the client has the support that he or she needs to maintain and build upon the progress that he or she makes while in rehab at our meth abuse treatment center. Depending upon the specific needs of the client, aftercare planning may include coordinating with community-based support services or identifying the friends, family members, and other individuals who will comprise the client’s personal support network.

Recognizing that residential rehab at a treatment center for meth addiction is just one step on the path of lifelong recovery, we are proud to offer two step-down options. Clients who can benefit from more structured support after completing the residential phase of their recovery but before they return home may choose to enroll in either our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or our intensive outpatient program (IOP) for additional rehab services and support.
