Anxiety Disorder Treatment

The category of anxiety disorders includes a variety of conditions that are characterized by the presence of excessive and potentially overwhelming fear and worry. Examples of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, separation anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and specific phobia. Each of these conditions can have a profoundly negative impact on a person’s physical, psychological, and social wellbeing, and can dramatically limit his or her ability to live a productive and satisfying life.
When a person who is already struggling with an addiction to alcohol or another drug develops an anxiety disorder, the combined impact of the substance use disorder and the anxiety disorder can be devastating. However, when a person in this situation gets effective professional help from a treatment center whose program provides comprehensive care, he or she can regain control over his or her behaviors, escape the chains of anxiety and addiction, and pursue a much happier and healthier future.
How to Help a Loved One
Helping a loved one get treatment for anxiety disorders
Caring about a person who is struggling with an anxiety disorder can be a wrenching experience. No one wants to see a loved one’s life become diminished by what can appear to be irrational fears or worries. But once you understand that your loved one is dealing with a mental health disorder, you can take a few simple yet essential steps that may make a world of difference in your loved one’s life:
- Get the facts about what your loved one is experiencing. Anxiety disorders share similar characteristics, but they are distinct disorders that impact sufferers in unique ways. Talk to your loved one to better understand how his or her life is impacted, and conduct your own research to learn as much as you can about the specific disorder.
- Identify the types of treatment that have helped others whose struggles were similar to what your loved one is experiencing, and find treatment centers that offer this type of rehabilitation.
- Discuss what you have learned with your loved one. But remember that your goal is to have a discussion, not deliver a lecture. Tell your loved one about the treatment centers for anxiety disorders you have discovered, and listen to his or her responses. Do not issue ultimatums or allow the discussion to devolve into an argument. No matter how the first talk goes, keep healthy lines of communication open.
- Help with logistics. Make appointments, provide transportation, arrange for childcare, and do whatever else you can to remove the obstacles that are standing between your loved one and the treatment that he or she needs.
- Be supportive before, during, and after your loved one enters treatment. Fear of the unknown can make the days leading up to treatment particularly angst-worthy, and being in a residential program can be disconcerting at first. Do whatever you can to remain a positive source of support and encouragement for your loved one.
Finally, remember that attaining help at a treatment center is just the first step. Your loved one will need your continued support for months and years to come. Leave no doubt in his or her mind that you will be there every step of the way.
Why Consider Treatment
Why consider treatment for anxiety disorder at Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, CA
When a person who is experiencing an anxiety disorder does not get the treatment that he or she needs, the ever-worsening symptoms can have a negative impact on virtually all areas of his or her life. Depending upon the type of anxiety disorder that the individual is dealing with, he or she may be rendered incapable of maintaining healthy relationships, getting and keeping a job, paying his or her bills, having positive social experiences, and otherwise participating in a healthy and satisfying life. Anxiety disorders can lead to both isolation and ostracization, which can undermine a person’s independence and force him or her to rely on friends or family members for support. Individuals who are dealing with a substance use disorder in addition to their anxiety disorders are at significantly increased risk for enduring continued physical, psychological, and socioeconomic damage. With a diminished capacity for experiencing the joys of life, individuals who are dealing with addiction and a co-occurring anxiety disorder may find themselves estranged from family and friends, living what may feel like a helpless and hopeless existence. Thankfully, seeking rehab for an anxiety disorder at a quality treatment center can combat these negative consequences, or prevent them altogether.

Depending upon the unique needs of each person who chooses to heal with us, treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch may include the following elements:
Detoxification: If a client arrives at Sunrise Recovery Ranch with alcohol or other substances of abuse still in his or her system, we offer detoxification services that include around-the-clock nursing care and monitoring to make the detox experience as safe and comfortable as possible. Clients who partake in our detox services will be seen by a doctor within 24 to 48 hours of admittance.
Medication management: Medication management services at Sunrise Recovery Ranch are provided by our medical director and members of our nursing staff. Clients whose chemical dependency is accompanied by a co-occurring anxiety disorder are required to attend weekly meetings with either our medical director or one of our physician’s assistants. Individuals who are not experiencing co-occurring disorders will have one meeting with our medical director or a physician’s assistant.
Individual therapy: Individual therapy is an essential component of treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch. Every person who heals with us has the opportunity to participate in at least two individual sessions each week. During these sessions, clients meet with their substance abuse counselor to discuss the progress they have made, process any successes or setbacks, and address any concerns that have arisen since their previous session. Coordinating closely with our certified addiction counselors, marriage and family therapist interns and trainees will also meet with each client on a weekly basis, with additional sessions available to be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.
Family therapy: If a client chooses to incorporate his or her family members into the treatment experience, marriage and family therapist interns or trainees are available to conduct family therapy sessions on a weekly basis. Depending upon the specific needs of the client and his or her family members, additional family sessions may be held via teleconference during the client’s individual therapy sessions.
Group therapy: Group therapy sessions provide valuable opportunities for clients to share their knowledge, learn from the experiences of others, and practice important skills under the guidance of a qualified professional such as a marriage and family therapist intern, marriage and family therapist trainee, chemical dependency counselor, or clinical technician. Several group sessions are held every day to address a variety of topics, including the following:
- Defense mechanisms
- How the disease has impacted clients and their families in a negative manner
- Anger management
- Relapse prevention
- Spirituality
- Nutrition and wellness
The day a client enters treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, his or her case manager will begin working on a continuing care plan to ensure that the client has the support that he or she needs to maintain and build upon the progress that he or she makes while completing rehab with us. Depending upon the specific needs of the client, aftercare planning may include coordinating with community-based support services, or identifying the friends, family members, and other individuals who will comprise the client’s personal support network.
Recognizing that residential rehab at an anxiety treatment center is just one step on the path of lifelong recovery from chemical dependency and a co-occurring anxiety disorder, we are proud to offer two step-down options.
