Substance abuse plagues many individuals throughout society today. One substance that is frequently abused is the same substance that also helps countless individuals experience relief from moderate to severe chronic pain. OxyContin, which is the trade name for the generic drug, oxycodone, is a powerful prescription medication that, while providing relief for many individuals, also possesses highly addictive properties. These addictive properties place this substance at a high risk for abuse, as OxyContin can cause users to experience a sense of relaxation, euphoria, and wellbeing when taken in higher dosages than are prescribed or with a greater frequency than is prescribed. Unfortunately, once this type of addiction has developed, it can be exceedingly difficult to overcome without professional rehabilitation provided at an OxyContin addiction treatment center.
At Sunrise Ranch in Riverside, California, we recognize the immense battle that attempting to overcome an addiction to OxyContin poses for our clients. For this reason, we have devised specialized addiction rehab programming for OxyContin that is tailored to help individuals overcome their compulsion to abuse this substance, while also learning the tools necessary to successfully manage future cravings and prevent relapse. At Sunrise Ranch, a new beginning can be discovered.
How to Help a Loved One
Helping a loved one get treatment for OxyContin addiction
If you have a family member or other loved one is struggling with an addiction to OxyContin, you likely feel a great deal of concern about the damage that he or she is doing to his or her life. While it can be intimidating to consider confronting your loved one, it is important to remember that your intervention could ultimately prevent additional damage from occurring by helping your loved one find appropriate OxyContin addiction rehab at a quality treatment center. Consider the following tips before, during, and after confronting your loved one about his or her addiction:
- Research OxyContin and the effects that it can have on the body and mind. Additionally, learn about the disease of addiction so that you can develop a sense of understanding regarding what your loved one is going through.
- Research the types of care at substance abuse treatment centers that are available to individuals who are addicted to prescription painkillers like OxyContin.
- Sit down with your loved one and engage him or her in an open and honest conversation about his or her addiction. Anticipate that he or she will likely become defensive or possibly even deny having an addiction, but remain calm and patient. Present him or her with the available options for OxyContin addiction rehab and treatment you discovered while doing research, and let him or her know that you are willing to help him or her get the process started in any way that you can.
- Refrain from throwing away any of the substance that you may find in your loved one’s possession. While this can seem like an easy solution to the problem, it will likely only elicit feelings of anger in your loved one and prevent him or her from rationally considering any options for treatment that you may have suggested.
- Once your loved one has started taking part in treatment, inquire about ways in which you can become actively involved in her or her therapeutic process. Additionally, call and check in with your loved one on a regular basis so that he or she is consistently reminded that he or she has your support and is not alone on this journey.
Why Consider Treatment
Why consider treatment for OxyContin addiction at Sunrise Ranch in Riverside, CA
When treatment for an OxyContin addiction is not received, the number of detrimental effects that an individual is at risk for experiencing can be great. Physically, individuals who abuse OxyContin are at risk for suffering from many negative ramifications, including visual disturbances, vital organ damage, and cognitive impairment, to name a few. In addition to physical consequences, individuals who abuse OxyContin frequently find that they become incapable of performing to the expected standard occupationally, potentially resulting in demotion or job loss. Such occurrences then have the potential to result in the onset of financial strife. Individuals may also experience a decline in social functioning as the seeking, acquiring, and using of this substance becomes their top priority. Withdrawal from family and friends can be commonplace, as can be the onset of marital discord and family problems. Fortunately, these detriments can be avoided when individuals choose to take part in OxyContin addiction programming at a quality rehabilitation and treatment center that is designed to help them overcome their compulsion to continue using OxyContin and find renewed happiness.

At Sunrise Ranch, we offer a designated men’s program and a women’s program where gender-specific groups are held and programming is altered based on the various issues that men and women face. During various activities, however, men and women will engage in programming together at our addiction treatment center for OxyContin abuse.
When engaging in residential rehab at our treatment center for an OxyContin addiction at Sunrise Ranch, clients will have the opportunity to take part in the following therapeutic interventions:
Detoxification: When clients come to us with drugs or alcohol still in their systems, it may be most appropriate for them to take part in the detoxification process prior to fully engaging in the therapeutic aspect of programming. A doctor will see clients within 24 to 48 hours of being admitted into the program. The detox process is monitored 24/7 by our compassionate nursing staff, and our treatment professionals do everything in their power to ensure that clients’ detox process is safe and as comfortable as possible.
Medication management: When clients come to us with a preexisting psychiatric diagnosis, they will be required to meet with our medical director or one of our physician’s assistants once each week. When a co-occurring psychiatric disorder is not present alongside a client’s addiction to OxyContin, then he or she will only be required to meet with the medical director or one of our physician’s assistants once during his or her stay. The medical director and qualified nursing staff facilitate all medication management.
Individual therapy: Individual therapy sessions are an important part of the therapeutic process at Sunrise Ranch as they are designed to provide clients with time to meet one-on-one with a mental health professional to discuss any concerns they have or to review the progress they are making in treatment. Our certified addiction counselors work closely with our marriage and family therapist interns and trainees to conduct these sessions in a manner that is most beneficial to meeting the clients’ needs. Each client will meet with his or her substance abuse counselor twice per week for progress updates. The marriage and family therapist intern or trainee will also meet with the client at least once per week, with additional sessions being added on an as-needed basis.
Family therapy: Our marriage and family therapist interns and trainees will conduct family therapy sessions once each week if the client’s family members are available and if the client wishes to integrate them into his or her treatment plan. Depending upon the needs of the client, teleconference sessions with the client and his or her family members may also be incorporated into the client’s individual therapy sessions.
Group therapy: Group therapy sessions are a central component to the treatment offered at Sunrise Ranch, with numerous group sessions being held throughout the day. Marriage and family therapist interns, marriage and family therapist trainees, chemical dependency counselors, and clinical technicians are responsible for leading the various groups that clients participate in. Participation in these group sessions is required and the curriculum of topics that are covered during these sessions may include the following:
- Anger management
- Defense mechanisms
- Relapse prevention
- Nutrition and wellness
- How the disease has impacted clients and their families in a negative manner
