Vicodin is an analgesic, or painkiller, that is a combination of hydrocodone, an opioid painkiller, and acetaminophen, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol. It belongs to the opioid family of drugs, which includes morphine, codeine, Demerol, and even illegal substances such as opium and heroin. While Vicodin can provide excellent pain relief when used according to physician recommendations, it can also provide a powerful euphoric high when abused. This euphoric high can lead some people to become addicted to Vicodin, potentially causing widespread damage and devastation in their lives.

While the consequences of Vicodin abuse can be severe, it is possible to find freedom from a Vicodin addiction. At Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, California, we understand how difficult it can be to overcome a Vicodin use disorder, so we have designed a comprehensive Vicodin addiction rehabilitation program at our high-quality treatment center to give each of our clients the best possible chance for success.

How to Help a Loved One

Helping a loved one get treatment for Vicodin addiction

The devastation that comes when a person struggles with a substance use disorder is often not limited to just that person, but instead it spreads outwards and can affect many others in that person’s social circle. In the midst of their pain, loved ones can often have the mistaken belief that there is nothing they can do to help. While this situation may feel overwhelming, there are, in fact, a number of things that you can do to help your loved one, such as:

  • Learn all you can about Vicodin and Vicodin addiction. Research the signs of intoxication and overdose and speak with treatment professionals about what you can do to help your loved one.
  • Research treatment centers and find a few that provide personalized rehab for Vicodin addiction that may be best suited to your loved one.
  • Openly discuss your concerns with your loved one. While these conversations will likely be difficult for both of you, it is important to approach your loved one with an open and nonjudgmental attitude. Reassure him or her of your care and compassion.
  • When your loved one decides to seek help, offer to set up appointments with staff at your chosen treatment center and accompany your loved one to those appointments. Once he or she is in treatment, remain a consistent and positive presence throughout his or her time in treatment.
  • Throughout this entire time, it is important for you to continue taking care of yourself. Make time for your own hobbies and continue investing in your relationships.

Why Consider Treatment

Why consider treatment for Vicodin addiction at Sunrise Recovery Ranch in Riverside, CA

A Vicodin addiction can be a powerfully detrimental force on a person’s life. A person who abuses Vicodin may be unable to perform at work, potentially resulting in job loss, financial strain, and perhaps even homelessness. His or her relationships will likely also suffer, possibly leading to separation, divorce, loss of child custody, or social withdrawal. Vicodin also can have severe physical effects on the body with abuse potentially leading to organ damage, cognitive impairment, and sometimes even injury from being involved with drug trafficking. Furthermore, death by overdose or suicide is also a constant threat. Fortunately, however, if a person seeks prompt and effective treatment, it is often possible to avoid or minimize these negative consequences.

Depending upon the unique needs of each person who chooses to heal with us, substance abuse treatment and rehab for Vicodin addiction at Sunrise Recovery Ranch may include the following elements:

Detoxification: If a client arrives at Sunrise Recovery Ranch with Vicodin or other substances of abuse still in his or her system, we offer detoxification services that include around-the-clock nursing care and monitoring to make the detox experience as safe and comfortable as possible. Clients who partake in our detox services will be seen by a doctor within 24 to 48 hours of admittance.

Medication management: Medication management services at Sunrise Recovery Ranch are provided by our medical director and members of our nursing staff. Clients whose chemical dependency is accompanied by a co-occurring psychiatric disorder are required to attend weekly meetings with either our medical director or one of our physician’s assistants. Individuals who are not experiencing co-occurring disorders will have one meeting with our medical director or a physician’s assistant.

Individual therapy: Individual therapy is an essential component of treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch. Every person who heals with us at our Vicodin addiction treatment center has the opportunity to participate in at least two individual sessions each week. During these sessions, clients meet with their substance abuse counselor to discuss the progress they have made, process any successes or setbacks, and address any concerns that have arisen since their previous session. Coordinating closely with our certified addiction counselors, marriage and family therapist interns and trainees will also meet with each client on a weekly basis, with additional sessions available to be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Family therapy: If a client chooses to incorporate his or her family members into the treatment experience, marriage and family therapist interns or trainees are available to conduct family therapy sessions on a weekly basis. Depending upon the specific needs of the client and his or her family members, additional family sessions may be held via teleconference during the client’s individual therapy sessions.

Group therapy: Group therapy sessions provide valuable opportunities for clients to share their knowledge, learn from the experiences of others, and practice important skills under the guidance of a qualified professional such as a marriage and family therapist intern, marriage and family therapist trainee, chemical dependency counselor, or clinical technician. Several group sessions are held every day to address a variety of topics, including the following:

  • Defense mechanisms
  • How the disease has impacted clients and their families in a negative manner
  • Anger management
  • Relapse prevention
  • Spirituality
  • Nutrition and wellness

The day a client enters treatment at Sunrise Recovery Ranch, his or her case manager will begin working on a continuing care plan to ensure that the client has the support that he or she needs to maintain and build upon the progress that he or she makes with us. Depending upon the specific needs of the client, aftercare planning may include coordinating with community-based support services, locating sober living environments, or identifying the friends, family members, and other individuals who will comprise the client’s personal support network.
