Sunrise Recovery Ranch offers a tribal program for Native American individuals who are seeking treatment for substance use disorders and other mental health concerns.
About Our Tribal Program
Our tribal program is available to all Native American individuals age 18 and older who are struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. In our tribal program, adults have the opportunity to relearn the meaning of family and tribe, find healing through the celebration of their culture, and discover their role in their community.
For many patients entering the tribal program for substance use disorder treatment, detoxification is the first step to recovery. During detoxification, patients receive medication to help make the withdrawal process more comfortable. This is all done under the care of our medical director, physician assistants, and licensed vocational nurses. The detoxification process is typically completed in four to seven days.
Along with detoxification, our tribal program includes opportunities to participate in several group therapy sessions each week. Group therapy covers topics such as relapse prevention, breathwork, substance use education, codependency, and nutrition. Patients can also participate in weekly individual and family therapy sessions. The typical length of stay in our tribal program is about 21-30 days.

What Are the Benefits of the Tribal Program?
At Sunrise Recovery Ranch, we understand the unique needs of Native American individuals as they begin their recovery journey. One of the main benefits of choosing treatment in the tribal program is being surrounded by individuals who have similar backgrounds, concerns, and goals. This helps bring patients out of isolation and gives them a judgment-free support system.
In our tribal program, adults can benefit from a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses the root cause of substance use disorder concerns and co-occurring mental health concerns to ensure lasting wellness. To achieve this, adults can participate in a range of therapeutic techniques, including:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
- 12-Step programming
- Motivational interviewing
- Equine therapy
- Music therapy
- Art therapy
What Are the Next Steps After the Tribal Program?
We understand that someone’s time in the tribal program is just one part of their recovery journey. During the admissions process, each patient’s care team works with them to begin planning their aftercare. This might include admission to a lower level of care, such as our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP), or referrals to outpatient treatment. We also provide patients with information about 12-Step groups in the community and other resources that help support lasting healing.
